Mercedes-Benz 300SL

A superb. low mileage example of the ever-popular and appreciating R107 series Mercedes SL.

This late 300SL. first registered 0n 16/05/89. the last year of production of the R107. is finished in arguably one of the most desirable and timeless colour combinations of metallic Nautic Blue with a cream interior and a dark blue hood. It comes with its original body-coloured hard top.

This car is optioned with the desirable full leather interior. rather than MB Tex or cloth that so many have.

Over its 25 year life this SL has covered just 58. 00 miles. It has had five owners in total. always remaining around the Oxfordshire/Berkshire area. with the last lady owner keeping it for 15 years before her advancing years necessitated parting company. There is substantial service history. going back to when it was new. indicating that throughout its life it has been extremely well looked after. although in recent years it has covered very few miles and has been stored in a garage.

It is in totally original specification throughout. even down to its original Blaupunkt radio.

Since we acquired this Mercedes. it has been subject to a thorough refurbishment. The bulkhead (a weakspot on the R107) has been checked for corrosion. found to be solid and rustproofed. paintwork refreshed to the highest standard. new genuine Mercedes rubber seals (at vast expense) on the doors. A-pillars. hood compartment. soft top and hardtop. The headlamps have been reconditioned with new reflectors and all the adjustment components replaced (headlamps are no longer available from MB).

The bodywork is arrow straight and totally rust free with exceptional paintwork. The bumper chromes are perfect and free of rust.

The 15-hole alloy wheels are in excellent unrestored condition and shod with a matching set of nearly new Continental tyres.

The interior is unworn and in superb condition. Everything works and the correct Mercedes ribbed overmats are fitted. It has the rear seat option and a factory fire extinguisher.

On the road you can easily appreciate why low mileage examples of these cars. like this one. are much in demand. Everything feels tight. crisp and smooth. Essentially it feels like new with none of the vagueness. rattles or sloppiness you find with well used. poorly maintained SLs.

Whilst this 300 uses the smallest of the three engines available. it is by no means the poor relation. The M103 straight six is fabulously smooth. eager to rev and powerful. It suits the relaxed character of these cars perfectly. As you'd expect with such low mileage. this engine runs perfectly with the correct oil pressure. And the four-speed automatic gearbox changes gear almost imperceptibly.

These late R107s are the most desirable of the series. and in this colour combination with such low mileage our SL represents a great investment as well as a hugely stylish and dependable classic car.
