The Big Healey is one of the rare breed of 1950s sports cars that could be taken straight from the showroom floor to the racetrack--and win. As early as 1953. the Healey's competitive star shone brightly with a twelfth place overall in the gruelling Mille Miglia and a third place in the 12 Hours of Sebring. competing with the likes of Aston Martin and Jaguar. Hugely undervalued in comparison to the C / D-type Jaguars these Healeys offer fantastic value for money.

This 1955 BN1 model we have here is an exceptional fully restored example with very few previous owners.

For most cognoscenti the purest iteration. hence the only model worth consideration. it provides something none of its successors could deliver: a wind shield that can be lowered to an almost horizontal position. for the ultimate in fresh-air entertainment.

In fact. the 100/4 folding wind shield is quite unique in post-war automotive history. Converted in less than a minute from a characteristic British Roadster to the closest thing this side of a motorcycle on four wheels. driving the Big Healey with the wind shield folded back provides more exciting wind-in-the-face and bugs-in-the-teeth fun than any other sports car I can think of!

From the moment you push the small black Bakelite button to stir the starter motor. the car feels alive. The engine announces itself with a bark and reacts instantly--almost telepathically--to the throttle as the exhaust belches a throaty tune. sounding and running flawlessly and popping beautifully on the overrun it is truly music to the ears.

Restored to a fantastic standard over many years and finished in its factory colour of Carmen Red. with Black leather seats piped red. black carpets and black tonneau.

RHD home market spec car with matching numbers.

The restoration costs topped £32. 00 with much of the work being carried out by JME Healey specialists the detailing and workmanship on this BN1 is very nice indeed. the door lines are one of the best example we have seen.
