EXTERIOR
It is very hard to describe this 280 CE as anything but show car condition. The current owner has cherished and pampered this car since 1996 and a couple of years ago undertook a no expense spared re-commissioning to bring the car back to the condition it was when new. Whilst the car was not suffering from the usual rot and rust issues that can affect this generation of Mercedes. the paintwork had picked up a mixture of chips and marks and had areas of too much polishing over its 31 years.

Rather than subject the car to a cheap re-spray. he decided to indulge this exceptional low mileage and ultra-rare air conditioned example to a professional glass out bare metal re-spray. During the refurbishment and at a huge expense the owner replaced the front and rear window rubbers. the sunroof seals. all four window rubber seals. both door seals. a new front chrome bumper middle section. a replacement rear bumper. new front grille chrome slats. new chrome protection moldings and a complete new exhaust system to name just a few items!

INTERIOR
This beautiful Mercedes cabin is in timewarp condition. the front seats show no signs of wear and the carpets remain perfect and unmarked. The car has never been smoked in and the front and rear ashtrays are unused. In fact. the car actually smells like a new Mercedes. The drivers ‘rest pedal' had become heavily scratched after 33 years and the owner managed to source a brand new replacement part.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
This example has covered a mere 56. 00 miles and has an impeccable full service history to back up the mileage. so as you would expect it is in perfect mechanical order. The car has just been serviced by reputable Mercedes Specialist The Merc Medics in Surrey. This work included a cleaning of the fuel system. a major service (new plugs. HT leads. all filters. new fluids. brake fluid. new exhaust system. new fuel lines. new fuel pump. a brake system overhaul. a new radiator. a replacement fuel divider. a replacement air conditioning condenser etc) and a multi-point inspection.

The car was taken to well respected Mercedes Specialist SS Motors of Weybridge when the car passed its MOT in January 2014 with no advisories. Whilst the car was with SS Motors they took the car to A/C Engineering in Surrey to get the air conditioning system serviced. Here they fitted a new Air Conditioning Drier and converted the system to 134A gas at an additional cost of £320.

The 4 speed automatic gearbox feels light and accurate shifting through the gears and makes this pillarless coupe cruise along effortlessly.

WHEELS. TYRES & BRAKES
The upgraded ‘Mexican Hat' 14" alloys have been refurbished to as new condition and are shod in matching tyres. The spare wheel is also like new and is fitted with a matching tyre. complete with jack and Mercedes tool roll.

The front and rear brakes are in perfect working condition as they have been recently overhauled and make little effort to bring this stunning classic car to a standstill.

HISTORY FILE
This top of the range 280 CE was originally ordered from Hughes of Beaconsfield Mercedes Benz to its first owner. The current owner has owned this car since 1996 and the previous owner before that purchased it in 1988 when it was 7 years old. The car has wanted for nothing and was maintained impeccably. predominately by Mercedes Benz main dealers. The car has had 12 services. as stamped in the original service book (approximately a service every 4. 60 miles!).

The car was taken off the road in 2005 when it had covered just over 55. 00 miles and kept in dry storage since. In addition to the original service book the car also comes with the original wallet. owner's manual. unused Mercedes medical kit. workshop directory Europe. and UK Dealer directories.

Due to the profound costs of specifying air conditioning on a 123 Mercedes back in 1981. almost no examples carry it to this day and of those that survive with this ‘Hens Teeth' option. it is unlikely it would be working.
