1968 Triumph TR5 PI

Only 1161 UK-market. fuel-injection Triumph TR5 were ever produced making them the rarest of the TRs and the certainly most desirable.

Our example is in immaculate condition. The bodywork is exceptionally straight with superb Signal Red paintwork. The panel fit. often terrible on these TRs. is good. Underneath there is no corrosion or poorly executed repairs. and it's well protected. All the chrome work is excellent with no pitting or damage. As you can see in the pictures. the engine bay is equally beautifully finished.

Most of the interior is new. In the last few years the carpets. door cards and miscellaneous trim panels have been replaced. the seats replaced with new (and substantially more comfortable) recliners trimmed in leather. The Dashboard was been upgraded to burr walnut and all the gauges have been renewed along with the steering wheel. a new Moto Lita. The hood and tonneau are recent and as new. and all the door/window rubbers have been replaced.

Yet. despite the fantastic structural and cosmetic condition of this TR5. easily the best bit about this car is the way it drives. The engine has been rebuilt in recent years by Classic Racecraft and uprated to produce 170bhp (we have a rolling road printout to prove this). making it substantially faster than a standard TR5 with huge reserves of torque. And thanks to the performance exhaust system. sounds absolutely glorious. The gearbox is tight. quick and quiet. and the overdrive engages and disengages extremely quickly.

All the brakes and clutch hydraulics have been replaced recently and the suspension has been uprated with a stiffer anti-roll bar. firmer springs and polyurethane bushes. It's not too hard. but it does handle beautifully.

The deep-dish MWS wire wheels are nearly new. in perfect condition and rather resemble the Borrani wires you find on classic Ferraris. giving the car a slightly more muscular appearance that suits its character. They wear new radial tyres.

This Triumph comes with a substantial folder of bills and receipts substantiating all the money that has been spent on it over recent years. and the V5C shows that it has only had five owners from new. It also comes with a large amount of spare parts.

On the road this TR5 is a revelation. It handles and stops beautifully. and is genuinely fast. which. combined with its tall gearing. allow cruising at well over 100mph with ease.

With values of these rare cars steadily on the rise. we feel that this example is extremely competitively priced for what it offers.
