1954 MG TF1500

One of only 3400 produced.

Not very many left now!

Regarded by many as the

best looking MG ever made!!

Chassis number; HDC46/6985

Engine number; XPEG849

Built on 10 Sept 1954

Left hand drive.

Original US license plate; GDM 311

Autumn red and beige interior.

Black carpets. an tonneau.

When discovered in a collectors barn. this solid and straight

1954 MG TF1500 was begging to be restored to its former glory!

The owner was retiring to Ireland and selling off his collection of about 35 classic!!

Shipped out to the USA. Texas/California” in Sept 1954. so its a black plate dry state car!!

Its last know use in the USA was in 1986.

Brought back home to the UK in 1997. where it lived in 3 owners dry barns!

Until March 2012 when I bought it.

Subject to a near total nut/bolt strip down & rebuild over the last year!!

Rust free straight chassis and body.

Chassis bare metalled then stone-chipped.

Body bare metalled. and painted in solid 2 pack Autumn red. “Code RD06”

New woodwork sections let into body frame where needed.

That's both main sills and upper filler. rear lower sill. drivers door post

New plywood panelling all round. New suspension rubbers all round.

Suspension parts cleaned checked. sandblasted and painted.

New rear springs. new brakes. new wiring loom and electrics/lights. new battery.

Full new interior re-trim. new aero-screens. ing mirrors. new tonneau. all new chrome.

rechromed grille surround and new slats. reversing lamp.

 Custom made radiator. and custom made s/s exhaust.

Wheels refurbished. new hubcaps and new tyres.

Original engine and radiator had been removed by a previous owner

to fit in his 1949 MGTC. ”Ive got the gearbox”

I've fitted a rebuilt 1975 MG Midget 1500tc engine and gearbox. with new clutch.

and done a hydraulic clutch conversion. using a new MGA dual master cylinder.

It not only looks the part. ut goes VERY well and

 is very easy and cheap to maintain.

The ONLY modifications done to fit this engine were;

I made a front engine mount in the style of the original

 to utilize the existing engine mount rubbers position on the chassis

Drilled 2 holes to fit the gearbox mount rubbers.

2 x 1cm propshaft spacers. the 1975 Midgets front UJ fitted to the TF's prop!

Custom radiator. oses and s/s exhaust to suit.

Simple job to replace with an original 1500 XPEG engine if you can find one!

In keeping with the original dash. made a new panel and fitted the 2 main dials from the 1974 MG Midget. /span>

so they are compatible with the engine/box.

I also managed to locate a very rare 3 in 1 dial cluster with oil. mps. emp.

for the dash center in keeping with the original setup of amps. il. emp.

As this car is most likely not going to be driven in the wet or rain. /span>

I have decided not to fit a new hood or sidescreens. r the windscreen or wipers!

All the above can easily be done if you want to. as I have the windscreen frame. wiper set up. ood frame.

And if you decide to find and fit an original engine.

then I have the dash and dials all ready for rebuilding and fitting.

In the UK cars built before 1960 no longer require an MOT.

This was useful in getting it registered for the UK. nd is now fully UK road legal.

The MOT is now totally voluntary for pre 1960 cars.

But this will be sold with a new MOT if staying on the UK roads.

I have approx 1000 photos of the car.

From as found in the barn. ts delivery. nd its stripdown and rebuild.

The new owner will get a disc with all the pictures and video clips.
