SELLER REMARKS

One of the most under-appreciated second-generation F-bodies is the Turbo Trans Am. Today. we know what kind of awesome potential lies within a turbocharged engine. and this super clean 1981 Turbo Trans Am WS6 offers awesome colors. a sanitary interior. and a smooth swell of torque that only forced induction can deliver.


From an era when Trans Ams were notorious for being over-the-top. this very attractive Dark Blue (code 29) provides welcome contrast. With just 65. 15 original miles. it's as nice as survivors come. and shows just a single repaint a few years ago. Garage kept and expertly maintained all its life. it's a reminder of what performance looked like in the early 1980s. The shape was still dramatic. even in its 11th model year. and there are many who like the subtlety of the Turbo's power dome hood as opposed to the faux scoop of other T/As. The paint is dark and sophisticated and the requisite decals are contrasting blue. not white or gold. so the car has a somewhat low-key look that should be very appealing. Details like the chin spoiler. urethane nose cone. and rear bumper are in excellent condition and show none of the usual signs of age that plague many of these cars. The paint shines up quite well but doesn't have that super-perfect look that tips off onlookers that there's been a repaint; no. this one looks like an extremely well-maintained survivor and we like that part just fine.

There's no question that the blue cloth interior is original and in very nice shape. As with the outside of the car. the Trans Am's interior is rather restrained and tasteful. although it still offers all the traditional high-performance styling cues that you've come to expect: engine-turned dash. three-spoke steering wheel. and a center console. Easy-to-read gauges look sporty and give a comprehensive view of the V8 up front. and the "boost gauge" that consists of three lights tucked into the back of the hood scoop is pretty darned cool. This top-of-the-line T/A comes loaded with options like factory A/C. power windows and locks. a tilt column. and rather rare cruise control. An AM/FM/cassette stereo was another desirable option that still wasn't too common in 1981. and the Firebird-logo floor mats are an appropriate addition. The trunk is still entirely original. including the mats and the space-saver spare with jack assembly.

The 4. 9 liter turbocharged V8 was the top performer in 1981. and made a respectable 200 horsepower and a very stout 340 pounds of torque (for contrast. the 1981 Mustang Cobra offered 120 wheezing ponies). We have every reason to believe this is the original. numbers-matching engine and given the low mileage. it's likely that it has never been apart. The heart of the whole system is the turbocharger mounted on the passenger's side of the engine. which pressurizes the Pontiac-built 301. All the hardware is intact and functional. so you get that gentle swell of torque whenever you squeeze the accelerator and as with many turbocharged cars. the choice of a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission is a smart one. The underside is every bit as tidy as the engine bay. and it includes a fresh exhaust system that sounds decent despite the muting effect of the turbo. Those polished wheels are still some of the most attractive ever fitted to a Trans Am. and carry appropriately-sized 235/60/15 Uniroyal radials.

1. Per the eBay User Agreement. by placing a bid you are entering into a legally binding contract and are committed to purchasing the vehicle described above. The details of this commitment are further outlined in the eBay User Agreement.

2. Vehicle may be sold by Streetside Classic Cars prior to the end of the auction. Streetside Classic Cars reserves the right to end its auctions early or to cancel bids solely at its discretion and shall not be held liable for any such cancellation.

3. The winning bidder is required to contact Streetside Classic Cars within 24 hours after the close of the auction to finalize the details of the transaction.

4. A $1. 00 non-refundable deposit is required within 48 hours of the auction's close.   This deposit reserves the vehicle and removes it from the market. Acceptable payment types for deposit are: credit card. wire transfer. cashier's check. and money order.

5. If winning bidder does not contact Streetside Classic Cars and submit deposit within 48 hours of auction close. vehicle may be made available to the next highest bidder or another qualified buyer on a first come. first serve basis.

6. Streetside Classic Cars has represented this vehicle to the best of its ability. Prospective bidders are encouraged to contact us directly to provide additional information or answer any questions.

7. Please be aware that all pre-owned vehicles. regardless of age. mileage. or manufacturer are subject to cosmetic wear and mechanical failure.
