The classic looks of an MGB with the performance and sound-track of a TVR. Sound interesting? Converted back in the 1980`s using an SD1 Rover Vitesse as a donor car. this beast has just been freshly MOT`d after a decent road test (!) and to say I'm impressed is a massive understatement. From the receipts in the large history file. the development of this car took over 5 years and involved a complete body-off restoration as well as comprehensive modifications throughout. Repainted 2 years ago. this fast-road “B” looks fabulous in virtually unmarked Tartan Red with Black Hide interior and goes like the wind. If this has whetted your appetite. read on.

MGB Roadster production began in 1962 and it was an immediate hit considered very modern for its day with lightweight construction and offering brisk performance. Always only available with the ever-dependable 1798cc B Series engine developing at best 95bhp. it was a Roadster that demanded more power. Its cousin. the GT. benefitted from such a power boost with the fitting of the Buick-sourced 3528cc V8 from the Rover P5B to create the MGB GT V8 but sadly such an upgrade was never available from the factory on the open-top model. British Leyland were very conscious of the success of the more expensive Triumph Stag and perhaps creating a smaller. faster V8 brother was as such out of the question.

By the 1980`s. MGB production had ceased but a small enthusiastic band of followers started to dabble with their own modified cars and so the idea of a V8 Roadster was born. One such company was based in Orpington. Kent and simply traded as the V8 Conversion Company. This company was to play a significant role in the development of HRL 907N.

Our car was first registered in June 1975 and would have left the factory carrying rubber bumpers and most likely Rostyle wheels. We no little of its early life with the paper trail starting in 1987 when it was acquired by an MG fanatic in Kent. Over the following 5 years. the car was effectively rebuilt using an SD1 Vitesse 3500cc engine and gearbox and MGB V8 parts to create the car we see today. We have a file containing over 50 invoices and receipts documenting exactly the work done over this period as well as all the MOT Certificates from 1987 to the present day. Interestingly. the car has covered less than 18. 00 since the rebuild and has had just 2 keepers.

The paperwork picks up again around 4 years ago when it was purchased by a further enthusiast and treated to a significant programme of detailing as well as a full re-spray in Tartan Red. At the same time. all four corners benefitted from the fitting of Minilite-replica alloys wearing Yokohama rubber all `round. Plenty of further invoices support extensive servicing over this recent period and the car. we believe. is as sharp today as when it was first converted over 20 years ago.

In addition to a comprehensive history file. the car comes with the original MGB Handbook. a current MOT Certificate to April 2014 and 2 seats of keys.

Turn the key and the car fires up with a very TVR-like roar. Performance is instantaneous and quite electrifying! I have just completed a 10 mile road trip and just enjoyed every minute of it. Fabulous handling. firm brakes and just loads of power. It is a car that demands to be driven. Hard! Lovely to look at too with great panel-fit. perfect chrome and fresh paint-work.

A properly converted V8 Roadster. The right colour. The right interior. The right engine. Wow!
