1937 Packard V12 Model 1508 Convertible Sedan V-12

Almost from the beginning Packard's slogan was ‘ask the man who owns one' and while this was a bit of PR marketing. in reality it was not just a slogan but a fact.

Anybody that has ever driven a Packard knows that they were always the superior production car for any particular year.   Where Packard really excelled was when they came out with the 12 cylinder Packard in 1932.   By 1937 the 12 cylinder Packard had been brought to the ultimate perfection and was truly an engine that could go fast and be very smooth all at the same time.   In 1937 Packard suspension had been improved to such a degree that the ride is absolutely comparable to today's modern cars.

While there are many Packard collectors who have favorite Packard years for their preference just about every Packard owner will agree that the 1937 Packard V12 is the finest pre-war Packard that you can drive and own.   Simultaneously most Packard owners will agree that the 1937 Packard V12 convertible sedan is about the finest configuration that you can get for touring in the warm weather with the top down or traveling across country in warmth and comfort with the windows rolled up and the Packard heater blasting away and the Packard radio playing your favorite station.

The car that you see in this ad is all of the above.   A 1937 Packard V12 convertible sedan that had a serious sympathetic restoration several years ago but enough was left in the way of original parts and items to let you know that this car was never abused.   By this we mean. that all the leather in the seats is original. door panels are original. and nothing has been modified or changed to modernize the car in any major way.

For us here at MissChiTown we can't think of a better looking Packard that presents such ‘critical mass' for part of its personality and profile and would receive the respect of collectors at any major classic car show throughout the United States.   Here at MissChiTown we know of many deep-pocketed major classic car collectors that have Duesenbergs and Cadillac V16s but will tell you very quickly that their favorite Classic Car is a Packard V-12.

The following is additional information that we hope will help you sort out whether this is just the Packard classic that you have been looking for.

The Packard V12 Model 1508 Convertible Sedan V-12 was Packard's largest and most expensive production-bodied car in 1937.   Body by Dietrich. Series 1508. 175 bhp. 473. 3 cu. in. L-head V12 engine. three-speed manual transmission. independent coil spring front suspension. live rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs. four-wheel power-assisted hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 144. 25"

Packard earned a reputation as one of the world's great marquees.   The V12 Packards were smooth. quiet. and powerful. and by 1937. a highly refined luxury automobile.

The Packard V12 that was originally called the “Twin Six” was the flagship of the line.   In 1937 Packard added independent front suspension and hydraulic brakes.   1. 00 V-12 were produced that year.    Packard was one of the truly premier luxury automobiles of the day.   Packard was also the first company to put a V12 into a production car.

In older literature we found some interesting comments from owners of the Fifteenth Series Packard Twelve who raved about the car's ‘roadability' due to the incredible power-assisted brakes. the smooth V-12 engine torque and a very light clutch that made it an amazing car to drive.    The excellent engineering resulted with the Packards having the reputation of driving trouble free for years with minimum maintenance. adjustment or repair.    One gentleman wrote. “Those twelve pots pull the high-speed rear end for effortless 60-70 mph cruising".

The seller of this 1937 Packard V12 Model 1508 body by Dietrich has told us that he just had the car out last week and it starts right up and drives wherever he wants to go.   The seller thoroughly enjoys driving this car as much as he can in the summer months.   He told us that he once took the car on a 200-mile trip and drove the Packard up to over 6. 00 feet to one of the highest peaks in the United States.   His confidence in the 'roadability' of the car has been proven many times.

This Raymond Dietrich Custom Body Convertible Sedan has a beautiful dark forest green paint that was cosmetically restored about 25 years ago but still looks amazing.   The seller has told us that the car's interior leather is original and that the carpet is original both in the front and the back.   The Bedford cloth was redone several years ago but is what was in the car originally.

Some additional items the seller asked us to point out include:

Lalique Eagle Head Mascot radiator cap.

Power kill switch in floor at the front seat by driver.

All interior leather is original.

Carpet in the front and back is original.

Packard radio and heater.

Auxiliary electric fuel pump. switch is under dash.

Odometer reads 3. 24 (believed to be the mileage since the car was restored).

Original shop manual.

Tune up system sheet.

Detailed invoices describing the cosmetic restoration from 1970 to 1986 by prominent shop.

Again. the car that is being presented in this ad has been owned by the current collector for at least 25 years and it has been well cared for and now this collector is getting up in his years and has decided to use MissChiTown as its exclusive marketing agent.   It should be noted that the reserve has been carefully thought out so that it is relatively conservative to the market value so everybody can bid to win.
