1976 Lancia Scorpion Spider (Montecarlo)

43. 23 miles   2 owners

This is a very well preserved original Scorpion that has had only two owners from new. It has been stored in a climate controlled facility and obviously used sparingly with such low original mileage. It has never been winter driven. Although we are not certain. it has probably had one repaint. but some may argue that most of the paint is original. This Scorpion/ Monte Carlo is the Spider. featuring a unique roll-back manually operated targa style convertible top.

The overall condition is that of a "casual show" car. it has shown at several prestigious local events over our sellers nine years of stewardship. however. it really has been enjoyed as a unique. rivable. and enjoyable vehicle. and is not a Concours d'Elegance level car. It has been respected and maintained as "original".

Some quotes from various sources:

"One of the most rare Lancias ever to come in the States was the Beta Montecarlo. a mid-engined two-seater sports car that was marketed in the USA as the Scorpion due to the use of the name "Monte Carlo" by Chevrolet".

"When the Beta and Scorpion (Montecarlo outside the US. but GM already owned that name here) were introduced. Fiat had just recently acquired Lancia and hadn't yet acquired Alfa. so the market positioning/rationale (not to mention history) of Fiat and Lancia at the time was quite comparable to the relationship between VW and Audi (sometimes. nbsp;the Lancia is referred to as “like an Italian Audi”). "

"In reality. the Scorpion/Montecarlo was far ahead of its time — DOHC engine mated transversely to a 5-speed front wheel drive transaxle — indeed. the Montecarlo/Scorpion used the Beta's FWD power-train in a rear-mid configuration. as the X1/9 did with the 128′s power train before it). rack and pinion ZF power steering. 4-wheel disc brakes. McPherson strut front and rear suspension with a fully independent. elegantly simple multilink rear — all rather common stuff today. but few cars had ANY of that. let alone ALL of that. as early as 1975 when it hit the came on market.
