The car is a 1959 Peugeot 203c (Right Hand Drive). These cars were built for over 10 years between 1949-1960. During these years. the 203c became known for its durability and its simple low cost of ownership.

Originally Equipped with a 4 cylinder Hemi engine: 4spd column shift trans. Rack and pinion steering: Transverse front leaf spring. with coils in the rear. Yellow metal rear end gears (bronze):

Front Suicide Doors (Opening Backwards). That is original. the rear open normally. It has 3 lug solid style wheels. Also a locking gas cap with key. and yes it still works.

This Peugeot was originally from Sri-Lanka. and was “Restored” in the late 1980's there. It was put together from a few other 203's (this had the best body). It traveled throughout India and various parts of Africa (I believe the tags are from Kenya). Lastly. being Air-Cargo-ed to the USA. around 2000. I was not told of the price. but was assured the air freight alone was astronomical. As far as I know it has never been driven on the road in the USA. due to the lack of knowledge-and parts availability. Thankfully there now is the INTERNET. so both are readily available!

The car is virtually rust free. the floors are solid. and original. That is VERY RARE to find on these models.

In trying to get it running. I found a Peugeot 403 engine for it. It is still needing a few things to finish it.

************************************************************************************

That's the story in a nut shell. The bottom of the doors were patched years ago it looks like-with welded steel. I have bought MANY parts for it. just a few are: Rings. Headlights. All Suspension bushings-Two windows (from France)-All lug nuts. Water Pump. Master Cylinder. Tubes. Wipers. All engine gaskets. Blenzdall castor oil. Wheel seals. hoses . alorstat. fluid jar. ignition coil. clutch. Numerous seals. There's more. but you can get the idea. The front wheel cylinders were re-sleeved by a hydraulics company (in brass). New brake shoes. Also new mirrors. There are many others….

The pictures are from varying times since we've owned it. The pictures in the shed are current. The misc spots on the paint are from tree sap before it went in the garage. The car has been covered. and stored in a garage for almost 2 years since being purchased. It has changed very little body wise. The engine has been removed from it. also other misc. parts (all included). At the moment the door panels. and front wheels are off (I am rebuilding the front brakes& shocks. almost done with both). That will be done before the car sells.

The tires hold air just fine.

The interior was redone when the rest of it was. It is in a cotton type fabric. smells a bit like old gerbil(kinda musty). It is in very good shape(minor tears. marks throughout). Still very much usable. The sun roof is not original. the owners had it installed. and it works just fine(was from another Peugeot). The paint is green. and needs to be re-done. The right rear window is broken out. I bought one from France that is included with it.

To get the car in running condition:

I have a 203. and 403 engine that goes with it (in-conveniently apart). To finish the 403 engine. and rest of the rebuild it will at least be needing: Work done to the head. cylinder's -and pistons. rod bearings (I have the crank bearings to go with it). Misc. oil galley plugs. Two 1” rear wheel cylinders. starter. and carb. Fixed. Brake lines finished.

We basically did most of the hard work. finding the right. rare parts.

Actually working on the car is the easy part!
It comes with all mentioned above. numerous manuals. and a Clear Virginia Title. On the title it is listed as a 1958 PUEGEOT. We can thank DMV for the errors. I never tried to sort it out. I was too excited at the time to worry(the vin # matches title). Since being a warm weather car. it never had a heater. It has the later style transmission (Syncroed).  Since being a RHD the shift pattern is backwards…. Really neat to shift.

We were very much wanting to finish it. Other things have gotten in the way. I had plans of driving it all over the country. alas these will not happen now. They are very. very rare in the USA. There are others. but not many. It is still a classic car in France. but usually found in just appalling condition.

International bidders welcome!

I am willing to sell this to anyone. anywhere that appreciates this vehicle-and is serious. It would have to be picked up. or shipped somehow. It cannot be driven at this time. The buyer is welcome to have it shipped/transported anyway we agree on.
