Seven Hills Motorcars is proud to offer this very rare numbers matching 1973 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible Pace Car Edition. There were only 566 Eldorado Pace Cars ever made so this model is very scarce. This particular Eldorado. car #36704. is listed in the official CLC #24 Authenticity Manual as an official Pace Car replica from the factory. This is a NO RESERVE AUCTION so whoever bids on the car will own it. The car is very correct and original. but does need some tlc. The prices of all the vintage Cadillac have skyrocketed in recent times. this is especially true for the convertible models and even more so for the rare examples like this Pace Car. This Cadillac does need some work. but it is absolutely priced to sell and definitely the best deal for a 1973 Eldorado convertible anywhere on the market right now. It is finished in the very attractive color combination of Cotillion White(11) over Red Leather(488) with a white top(A). which is the correct and original color scheme as verified by the codes on the trim tag. pictured below. The low original mileage is verified not only by the condition of the car. but also the clear Ohio title. pictured below. showing the miles as "Actual. " Please peruse all of the photos. video. and information below to get a true sense of how unmolested and correct this Cadillac really is.

We discovered this Eldorado Pace Car from a gentleman in Indianapolis Indiana. His father first purchased the car in 1983 and it had been in his family until we purchased it in May of this year. He believed that his father was the second owner of the car.   He also said that the car had made many trips back to the Indy Speedway for race day and has made parade laps around the track.

Please note that this Cadillac is "numbers matching" meaning the engine is original to the car. The last six digits of the VIN. 436704. are stamped on the engine block. and pictured below. indicating that this is the engine that was installed in the car brand new at the factory.

As a side note. this Cadillac is not a dealer auction vehicle.   We hand pick each car after careful inspection.   Our cars come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.   We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.   Please take the time to examine each picture.   We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.   If you have a question about the Cadillac. just give us a call.

model description

1973 was the 5th year that Cadillac was chosen as pace car fort he greatest spectacle in motorsports. It was also only the second time ever that a front-wheel drive car was leading the pack of race cars down the start lap; the first front-wheel drive pace car was a 1930 Cord driven by E. L. Cord himself. A total of 566 1973 Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado Convertible Pace Cars were built. all identified by option number SR-X20. They were all finished in Cotillion White. with White convertible tops and Medium Red (Scarlet) Sierra Grain Leather interiors. Of those. two "Official" Pace Cars built. with one of them being a spare in case something happened to prevent the actual car from being used. Both had specially modified engines that would allow the production Eldorado Convertible to reach the high speeds necessary to lead the powerful race cars. The modifications included removing the emissions control equipment and installing a new crankshaft. Specially forged pistons were used. and a low restriction dual exhaust system was fitted. as were special high speed tires. The 564 cars that were not modified for high speed use are considered "replica" cars. and had a special plaque (pictured below on this car) that was mounted on the instrument panel to the left of the clock identifying the cars as replicas. The plaques featured a back and white checkered crossed flag insignia at the top. and stated in red script below. "This Eldorado Convertible is a limited edition replica of the 1973 Indianapolis 500 Official Pace Car. " There were a total of 53 Eldorado Convertibles built for Indianapolis 500 Festival duty. all of which were delivered to the track and used in the Festival events preceding the race. The remaining 513 replica cars were delivered to Cadillac Dealers around the country to be used as promotional tools. and were usually later sold to customers. Graphics were not installed onto the car by the factory and reports indicate that most owners did not choose to have the graphics attached to the car.

Exterior

The Cotillion White exterior paint looks in person as it does in the photos. It appears as if much of the paint is actually original. The car still has the correct red pinstriping for a Pace Car. The paint has a nice gloss overall. but I would encourage close inspection of all the photos and video as the paint does have flaws. The chrome. stainless. and other bright work is in comparatively good overall condition. All of the moldings and trim are present. There are no major spots or blemishes in the paint that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. I have done my best to accurately and objectively photograph the car and show all of the flaws. but some are too small or cannot be picked up by the camera. One should really view the car in person to get the best and most accurate idea of what the car really looks like. For the most part however. the car looks in person as it does in the photos. The top is original and showing its age. Please note that this car still has the correct glass rear window. it has not been replaced with a cheaper plastic unit. There is a gap along the bottom of the rear window where the top has separated. This Cadillac does have rust in the normal areas one would expect like the rockers and lower quarters. As one can see in the photos of the underside of the car the frame is totally solid and the floor pans are also solid and we have seen no holes. The rust problems appear to be mostly on the outer body. The whitewall tires are in good shape with about 75% tread left. The car comes with a brand new parade boot. which is pictured below. that needs to be painted and hardware installed.

Interior

The Scarlet Red Sierra Grain Leather interior in this Cadillac is in very respectable original condition. The front seats look good with no excessive wear. Please note that these appear to be the original Sierra Grain Leather seats that came in the car new. not some cheap aftermarket replacements or covers. The gauges still look crisp with no rust and the lens is clear. The rear arm rests are in great shape with no cracking. but the padded trim above has some rips. The wood grain inside the car actually looks pretty good with no delamination. The chrome. stainless. and other bright work inside the car is in very nice shape. The carpet is good condition overall for bring original. it is just a bit faded. The dash is in good condition with no sun fading. cracks. or splits. The power seat motor clicks with the switch. but does move. The car still retains its original 8-track radio. which is important because the dash has not been cut or modified.

The trunk is original and complete. It appears as if the car still has its original cardboard inserts on the side and original material on the forward. rear. and pan sections. This Cadillac still retains its spare tire. jack. jack handle/lug wrench. jack base. and bumper hook.

Mechanical

This Cadillac seems to be in decent mechanical condition. It starts right away every time. idles well. and seems to runs okay. There is no smoke when starting or driving the car. The transmission shifts into all gears. The brakes do not pull. but could use some work. The car will stop and the brakes do work. but they do not stop this big car quickly and take a lot of pedal pressure. We have driven the car around our neighborhood and it performed okay on the road. but that is it; we have not had the car on the expressway or up to high speeds. The speedometer and odometer work. The gas gauge has shown full since we have had the car and we have not run it long enough to properly test that gauge. All of the power windows work as one can see in the video. the wipers work. and the horn works. The power function of the top works. but the mechanism needs some repairs. which is a very common problem on the front wheel drive Eldorado convertibles. The top can still be raised and lowered with some extra care. With all of that said there is still work to be done to the car overall and there are surely some bugs to be worked out before this car can be considered a reliable driver. There are some items on the car that do not work such as the power locks. power antenna. blower. radio. a/c. and some of lighting. There are some some fluid leaks on the car. There may be other troubles with the car that I have possibly overlooked so I would suggest any perspective buyer inspect the car in person if possible. Most sellers and definitely most dealers would not be so upfront and certainly not as through with these issues. but in our attempt to be completely honest we must disclose them.

Overall Condition

This car is great looking. complete. and extraordinarily original and untouched. This Eldorado is exceptionally rare being only one of 566 and is highly prized in the Cadillac community. Special edition models like this Pace Car always hold a high premium over their standard counterparts. This Cadillac turns head and gets A TON of attention everywhere it goes. It also has one of the lowest asking prices anywhere on the market for a usable 1973 Pace Car Eldorado convertible. This is an excellent opportunity to purchase a very rare car. Convertible Cadillacs make excellent cars to drive. One could enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than your purchase price. We. as always. would encourage you to take the time to view the car in person if possible. We have nothing to hide. that is why we include so many photos.
