The PACIFIC, 1937 Type 57SC BUGATTI ATLANTIC Recreation

The PACIFIC. A TRIBUTE TO JEAN BUGATTI's CLASSIC 1937 Type 57SC ATLANTIC

        Hand built from scratch over a four year period. former Editor of CAR CRAFT and HOT ROD magazines Terry Cook of DELAHAYE USA in Long Valley. NJ. had this rolling sculpture built as a Tribute to famed car designer and builder JEAN BUGATTI. son of ETTORE. He is totally passionate about the sensual. art deco styling of the pre-war French coachbuilt “streamliners”.  

      Distinguished by the unique dorsal fin used to rivet the original magnesium bodies together. only two of the original three Type 57SC 1937 ATLANTICS built in 1937-'38 remain. RALPH LAUREN owns one. valued at 40 million dollars. and the second was sold in 2010 for 34. 5 million to the MULLIN MUSEUM in Oxnard. CA.  Neither are For Sale. They are considered by many afficionados to be THE “ultimate” collector car.

      Designed as a homage to both Bugatti and Lauren. this is a stylized carbon fiber and composite bodied modern interpretation of Lauren's immaculate. stunning black ATLANTIC. It is a work of art. a rolling sculpture which respects the traditional Bugatti look and feel. It has a wider body and ten inch longer 127-inch wheelbase designed so a 6-foot 11-inch NBA player with wide shoulders can comfortably fit inside the enlarged passenger compartment.  The man pictured in the car is 7 feet tall (with his shoes on!) Unlike the originals. you can drive and enjoy it! 

      Jokingly called THE PACIFIC. it is powered by a 300 HP all aluminum fuel-injected BMW M70B50 SOHC twelve cylinder engine. The car features a four speed BMW 4HP24 automatic transmission. power windows and air conditioning. Nine people at the 2013 Las Vegas SEMA Show said it was the best looking car in the event. Amazingly. more than one said they preferred the modernized styling of PACIFIC to Lauren's ATLANTIC. In 2013 at the Pebble Beach Concours RETRO AUTO. at the Amelia Island and Boca Raton. FL Concours this year. and other select events. the car PACIFIC was a constant “people magnet”. It draws a crowd wherever it is displayed.      The interior starts with stainless steel seat frames that are exact copies of those in Lauren's ATLANTIC. The brocade upholstery fabric was found when Cook spent a day searching though an antique furniture warehouse in New York. If this is too flamboyant for a new owner. different upholstery can be substituted to suite the buyer's taste before delivery.  

      It is the perfect centerpiece for any classic car collection that currently lacks a Bugatti Atlantic.
