Acquired by Austin-Healey marque specialist Kurt Tanner in 2006 as a rust-free original California car. this 1960 3000 Mark I Roadster entered his restoration shop as an excellent. straight and solid original Old English White over red example. Tanner stripped the car down to its component parts and refinished the body in 2-stage Sikkens paintwork inside. out and underneath to faultless perfection.

The wire wheels are chrome stainless and will never rust and are shod with BF Goodrich blackwall radials. All chrome bumpers and trim items have been restored. replated or replaced and there is no 'mismatch' to any of the chrome i. e. one item next to the other has a different lustre.

The alignment of the bodywork is as good as or better than new. There is no evidence that the underlying car was ever hit. wrecked or rusted prior to restoration.

When we took the car out of our collector client's storage. where it had been sitting since he bought the car from Kurt Tanner. it ran and drove properly but there were some electrical gremlins apparently even missed by Tanner himself - the turnsignals and horn were wired improperly and wiring had chafed in those circuits. the overdrive solenoid was bad and one of the horns did not work. Additionally. Tanner had not restored the original instruments and we sent the speedometer and tachometer up to Nisonger to be redone at a very high cost as they were not working properly. All of the above items have been sorted as well as some other details prior to making the car available for sale.

This is one of the shapeliest rear ends you can show to an MGB or Triumph as you blow them into the weeds!

The trunk compartment shows just as well as the rest of the car.

Faultless. flawless. as one would expect from a Tanner restoration.

There are not many more appealing profiles than that of an early Austin-Healey 3000. Unlike the later BJ8s. the lines of this car are much purer and harken back to the 100-4 and 100-6 era.

There simply aren't any faults to show you on the walk-around. this 3000 is just spectacular.

The cockpit cover is the best way to go running around in a real roadster. Here it is zipped up against the elements.

Unzipped for the gentleman motorist!

No detail of the interior restoration was left untouched.

What a beautiful view.

The tonneau cover and the crossbar comes right off for open motoring.

The front seats are fitted with period-correct safety belts as well.

In addition to the overdrive transmission. this 3000 also has the factory Smiths heater.

More sumptuous leather and soft carpet. all as-new and as-restored.

From every angle. it's just an inviting presentation!

Unlike many Healeys. this BT7 is a rare bird in that it comes with the rear child seats - no less attention was afforded these! It is very rare and uncommon to see the BT7 model restored to this standard. Unlike many sporting cars of this era generally. there is actually some legroom afforded to these occasional passengers.

This instrument and the tachometer were both restored by Nisonger as they were not functioning properly. The stated mileage is actual as of this moment but may increase slightly with test drives.

Running at idle!

Fantastic oil pressure does not go down when fully warmed up. either. nor does the car heat up much past the 160 mark even in hot traffic. The cooling system is perfect.

The beautiful original telescopic-style steering wheel and combination "trafficator/horn" in the middle with horn and turnsignal switches was just removed and redone by yours truly to solve some issues.

No less attention was afforded the engine compartment. the engine and ancillaries are all fresh with test miles only.

Beautiful SUs!

All the wiring throughout the car is of course brand new and fresh as well as are the majority of components that were not redone. Nothing was spared.

Same things seen here.

Note the beautiful original and restored components here.

More of the same!

A shot of the engine running at tickover.

And again. note the fan!

The above and following three shots are of the wheels and inner fenders. just gorgeous.

The new side curtains that were ordered for the restoration are with the car but the bag for them as well as the entire top has gone AWOL. If it does not turn up in time for sale and since Moss Motors is our nearby neighbor. we will provide a new top. frame et. c. to the winning bidder or provide a credit to them for same at our cost if the winning bidder does not desire the top. We apologize that it is not here now. For some reason. we received an unrestored top for another 3000 from our client that is not apropo to this car and really can't do much with it. so once again either the right one or a brand new correct Moss top will go with the car. no questions asked.

payment/shipping

While physically located in Richmond. VA. this automobile is being sold under the license of a Licensed Motor Vehicle Dealership in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This car was part of a trade-in done with a partner I do many deals with and was sent here to be prepared for sale and shipment to a colleague whose client did not manage to complete the purchase. which was fine with me as it was a pleasure to sort out and then enjoy this magnificent car. There are many complications in dealing with the sale of used automobiles. even special interest and collector cars such as this phenomenal Austin-Healey. At the time of purchase. we will arrange for you to pay and complete your paperwork with our licensed dealer partner. Massachusetts residents (apart from those in possession of a motor vehicle dealer license) will pay all applicable taxes and documentary fees in addition to the purchase price as you normally would when purchasing a car from a dealership. Out of State/Out of Country buyers may be subject to a modest charge for paperwork and logistics charges we may incur through the normal course of business.

Full payment is due within seven days of auction close unless cleared with me in advance of your bid. There will be no exceptions to this otherwise. Accepted forms of payment include a cleared certified cheque or wire transfer in the dealership's bank account. whose delivery instructions will be provided to you at close of auction. There is no additional documents fee applicable to this transaction. Once again. Massachusetts residents MUST pay sales tax to the dealership in addition to your purchase price just as you would to the tag office or any other automobile dealer. We do not charge tax to non-Massachusetts buyers as this is something you handle at the DMV or. naturally. other dealers in all 50 states.

Shipping arrangements are your responsibility (though we are happy to make referrals to our trusted colleagues and friends in this business) and must occur within fourteen days of auction close unless cleared with me in advance of your bid. There will likewise be no exceptions to this otherwise. Once again. I am happy to help if you have special needs and will refer you to transporters I have used in the course of doing business if you need help. I can also transport the car for a nominal cost to the port of Baltimore. MD or Norfolk. VA in my personal enclosed trailer for overseas buyers once you have booked transport from one of these two ports.

We reserve the right to sell this car at any time during the week that this car is listed on eBay. cancel all bids and close this listing as soon as payment is received in full as the car has been conservatively marketed elsewhere prior to this listing. In the interest of fair trade I do not usually do this. however. given the massive exposure available on eBay. Please note that I will never close a listing early once the reserve has been met.

Any legal action associated with this sale from either the buyer or the seller is to take place in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the Malden District Courthouse. The bidder/buyer further agrees that any legal action will be heard in Malden. Massachusetts. All legal actions associated with this auction/sale will be governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and buyer agrees to be responsible for all legal costs including. but not limited to. court costs. expenses. attorney fees. cost of process service. and all other costs associated with the normal course of business.
