1968 Mk1 Triumph GT6

Thanks for taking the time to look at this auction for this rare example of an early Triumph GT6

It was registered in Aug 1968 and from then until this year had two family owners.

I have hand written history. receipts. MOT's going back to the mid 1980's

Mileage is 91000 supported by previous MOT's

It is a very original car. The only non-original parts seem to be a twin exhaust system and 1980's alloys both of which set the car off very well.

The bodywork is finished in its original green. It is not perfect and I will do my best to give a honest appraisal. The bonnet is basically sound. It does however need some work below the side light area and has a slight dent on the top. The chassis is excellent. It has had. in the past one new complete floorpan and new sills. The door bottoms and rear arches are sound. The tailgate and rear valance are very good. The door gaps are good and both doors close well. the roof front lip is excellent. The paintwork is very good and looks very smart.

Mechanically. the engine starts first time and sounds in good health. It drives very well. Nice gearbox and clutch. I have been told that the engine was rebuild along with the gearbox fairly recently. It handles well and has recent suspension bushes etc.

Inside. the interior is good and original. Nice wooden dashboard. The original seats are very supportive but the drivers seat has some wear. the headlining is complete but adhesive stains are visible. The carpets are ok. The interior does have a great original feel to it.

I do not need to mention that the value of the the early GT6's are rising rapidly. It is good to find one like this with good history and originality

It will be sold with a full MOT

This is a trade sale. I buy and sell classic cars.

thanks folks

Had lots of questions regarding the GT6 so will try and cover them here

The engine number is KC12632HE. This matches the V5 and would appear to be the original engine. certainly the number points it at that. Regarding the rebuild. I have no receipts. I was told it was done within the last few hundred miles by the son of the previous owner. Certainly it sounds fine as a Triumph 6 cylinder should. Like wise the gearbox. This is a non - overdrive model. No noticeable whines from the rear diff . Tyres all look fairly new. Not sure when it was last serviced but the oil is very clean. Carbs seem ok. certainly no issues starting or running.

The chromework is straight but faded.

Again looking through the receipts. there are bills and evidence of brakes. bushes. trunnions etc

The MOT history would point to the fact that the car has covered 3000 miles since the year 2000

Bodily. again I will try and cover everything but please call or view to a proper assessment.

The bonnet is the worse point of the car. There is evidence of filler around the arches and under the side lights. On the drivers side it will need work in this area. The bulkhead is solid. the paint is poor around the master cylinder area. Sills are fine. inner and outer. Door skins are solid as are the rear arches. Rear valance. rear panel. boot floor - no issues all solid. Chassis - all good. There are some marks on the bodywork here and there -nothing too bad. The drivers side full floor pan has been replaced at some point . This needs painting. waxoil etc

Failed MOT on rear brakes (cylinders seized) and a couple of small bits of welding needed at the rear floor passenger side. This will be done on Wed 22nd

This car is totally useable and really does drive well. Great history-genuine mileage.

Please call me with any questions or email me . My mobile is 07427 641774. The reserve is very realistic
