Just arrived at Cranborne this week after a period in storage and subsequent light re-commissioning is this fabulous `69 P5B Saloon in stunning Black with Chestnut hide. Believed to be an ex-Ministry car. it really lives up to the “baby Rolls Royce” moniker with smooth. effortless performance and of course. high levels of comfort and refinement.

The Rover P5 entered production in September 1958 with initially just a 2993cc straight-6 engine and the choice of automatic or manual gearbox and optional power steering. Over the next 9 years. the car evolved with more power. better suspension and generally became more luxuriously appointed. In 1967. the final incarnation was the P5B with “B” standing for Buick. the US car-builder who had provided the 3500cc V8 engine for the project. With 160BHP on tap. the car in both Saloon and Coupe forms had been given a new lease of life and when mated to the legendary Borg-Warner Type 35 transmission. offered the performance that the car had for so long been craving. Government Ministers fell instantly in love and the P5B Saloon became the favoured means of transport by Wilson. Heath. Callaghan and Thatcher. Indeed. when production ceased in June 1973. the Government purchased a batch of Black P5B Saloons and put them into storage for registration and use through the 1970`s. When Thatcher became Prime Minister in May 1979. she arrived at Downing Street in a 1972 model.

We are just completing one or two fettling jobs on our car but viewings are most welcome.
