Let me start this auction by saying that it's hard to believe that is has been 34 years since the last MGB's were made. One of the interesting aspects of getting older is that the cars of your youth start becoming classified as antiques. It's really a shame because although the MGB lacks the creature comforts of modern cars. the driving experience is hard to beat even after all these years.

To recapture this feeling I am offering a “rare” car as I continue to sell off part of my hoard. This is a 1974 MGBGT in Tundra Green. What makes this car rare is that the buyer will be the second official owner of this incredibly original RUST FREE car. It also has the original dealer installed air conditioning and rear window defroster. I bought this car last fall from the original owner who bought the car new in Ft. Lauderdale. It was parked in a garage in 1992 and was not moved again until I bought it. The car has around 39K miles on the odometer and it's probably original.  The Georgia title is signed by the original owner and includes the original dealership paperwork and even the warranty book…with the original owner's name on all documents.

BODY: After I bought the car I inspected it thoroughly for rust. Believe it or not…there is none.   I have been all over this car and it is as clean as the day it left the factory. The Tundra green paint is. I believe. original. In fact. the last three digits of the VIN are written under the bonnet (see the picture). The paint has faded over time; however. I have buffed the roof and part of the hood and it is coming back nicely. The next owner can have the pleasure of spending a few hours buffing out the rest of the paint J

The body is super straight with one dent on the top of the right front fender that looks like a typical garage ding. There is also a dimple on the hood (bonnet) where the car threw a fan blade back in the 1970's. The chrome bumpers are in good shape and the windshield and hatch chrome is perfect as are the door and gutter chrome trim.

All the glass is original and in good shape. It has the correct markings.

Also…as an interesting note the original spare key is still mounted on the inside fender of the engine compartment

INTERIOR: The Autumn Leaf interior is all original and for the most part is in good to excellent condition. The floor mats are original; the original headliner is in good shape. etc. The seat upholstery is worn but is very serviceable. The dash has one small crack on the passenger side. Basically. the interior shows signs of use but is absolutely unmolested.

ELECTRICAL: Everything works except the right front headlight (pretty sure it's burned out). The air conditioner fan works; of course. it will need to be charged

HYDRAULICS: After sitting for so long the hydraulics were shot. I replaced the complete braking system…. new brake master. new brake calipers and pads. new brake hoses. new rear wheel cylinders. new rear brakes and components. I also replaced the clutch master. clutch slave and installed a new stainless clutch slave hose. Basically. the entire hydraulic system is new.

FUEL SYSTEM: The original fuel tank had a leak from sitting for so long. I installed a new fuel tank. new factory AC fuel pump. and all new braided fuel lines.

MECHANICAL:

While redoing the rear brakes I replaced the rear hubs (they were worn) and replaced the rear axle seals while I was in there. I also changed the differential oil.

ENGINE: Before starting the engine I changed the oil and filter as well as the antifreeze. I replaced the thermostat and heater control valve. The engine started right up after its 22 year slumber and holds good oil pressure. The engine shows no signs of overheating. The only issue at this point is that the engine needs some choke applied to keep running. I assume that the carbs need rebuilding after sitting for so long.

MISCELLANEOUS: The tires are over 20 years old and should be replaced. They hold air but aren't safe to drive any distance.

In summary. this is an awesome unmolested survivor. It needs some final engine tuning and new tires to be put back on the road.  There can't be many of these all original cars left.
