Ford Cortina MK4 1977 R Taxed with Full MOT Genuine 44k Miles Full History file

Firstly. Please please please. don't bid unless you really want the car and have the cash. Don't bid if you are sitting there having consumed a load of alcohol or drugs. Don't bid if you will need to scrape the money together or have an impending family or financial disaster between now and picking up the car.  No dreamers or tyre kickers turning up with a grand or two. bid and win if your offer is good enough. I really get annoyed with idiots. Is it just me or is this because of my age. Sorry to any genuine people.

Viewings will be on Sunday between 1pm - 3pm only. which is 3 days before the end of the auction. Viewing is recommended if you are splashing out a few grand.  CAR MUST BE COLLECTED WITHIN 48HOURS AND PAID FOR IN CASH ON COLLECTION.

I will not be sending it to you for your son because you work on an oil rig. or any other stupid scam you might think up.    

ONE OF THE FIRST MK4s IN THE UK. a rare car in this year as a GL model and with a sand colour interior even rarer. I haven't seen another like this.

Just passed MOT on Monday with NO ADVISORIES and the emissions were to the standard of CO:0. 23 (The limit is 0. 30 for a modern car fitted with a CAT)

I could sit here typing all day about this. Hope you enjoy reading the summary below.

The Story

I bought the car in 2012. It was in almost total original condition. with the exception of two new Ford front wings and two new outer sills. The original paintwork had been flattened down and coated with grey primer. The engine started easily by putting a fuel line into a petrol can. but the car couldn't be driven as the brakes were partly dismantled. Other than that. the seats and carpet were shoddy and the cam was noisy. The car had been off the road since the mid 90's and was collected on a transporter. along with it came a mass of paperwork with purchase receipts. mot's e. t. c.

On examination of the paperwork. the car had been owned by three owners in the same family. Father. then son. then daughter (Documented proof). I was later contacted by someone who informed me that I had rescued the vehicle from banger racing. It appears that the vehicle had found its way from the family over to Wales to be banger raced. then probably rescued when the buyer realised the condition and therefore value.  

On thorough inspection of the vehicle. I found that the car was in amazing structural and virtually corrosion free condition. The floor. chassis and inner sills had no corrosion whatsoever and have never been welded. Likewise with the inner wings. doors and boot lid. A solid second hand bonnet was also fitted. I won't say where any repairs have been done. that will be your challenge if you inspect the car. All I will say at the moment is that it is all photographed. small areas. all cosmetic. and metal was treated. cut and replaced with seam welded metal and finished with filler for cosmetic purposes (one very small tin on the whole car)

The car was dismantled piece by piece. serviced repaired or replaced (like for like). painted and put back. The engine was stripped. serviced and a new camshaft. followers. water pump. cam belt were fitted. This was followed on rebuild with all new service parts and battery. alternator e. t. c. A new fuel tank and brake callipers. cylinders and shoes. and then brake pipes. All door mechanisms were serviced and the interior dash serviced. new bulbs e. t. c. The wiring loom was excellent so just a few connectors replaced. New Ford carpet and under carpet sound insulation and the seats were recovered in fantastic (better than original) like for like pattern & fabric. The insides of the doors. bonnet. boot. engine bay and door openings were sprayed. After the complete respray in the original colour the car looks completely original. Even the 1600 pinto engine is original as per the logbook. The car looks as near as you will ever get to the one that came off the Dagenham production line in 1976.

The MK4 was released on 29th Sept 1976. this was licensed in Feb 1977.

Comprehensive folder holding all documents.

Original purchase order detailing special requirements and costs. invoice and delivery notes.

MOT's and service documents from new.

All handbooks and service book.

Details including names and addresses of all 3 (same family owners since new). Off road from 1995 – 2013.

Total restoration and rebuild with 100's of photographs. Masses of information in a recorded diary of work on this. The basics are that this is probably one of the most original and earliest MK4's on the road. Only like for like replacements were made. no modifications. Minimal welding to high standard with photographs.

The car was a six page feature in the September 2013 issue of ‘Practical Classics' magazine.

Yes. I really really know that I will regret this if it sells. but I have decided to offer the sale of my restored MK4 Cortina. It comes from 1000's of hours of toil. and I want it to go to someone who will look after it. If it doesn't sell at the reserve I will be keeping it. which is what I originally planned to do for life. I loved the restoration so much I need to do something else now. so I need the garage back. If I can find free secure storage locally I will withdraw the car from sale and keep it.

This car will only go up in value. as us Cortina lovers know everyone had one in the family.

After restoration it passed the MOT in April 2013 with no advisories. and has since been driven on sunny days locally. and taken the 120 mile round trip to the Ford day in Blackpool. driving superbly. It has just passed the MOT again with no advisories. having done 375 miles in the last year.

The car was garaged and under a cover and SORN during the winter.

With my insurance policy (£87 fully comp) there is an agreed valuation of £4. 00 which was before the interior was re upholstered and carpeted.

BODYWORK

I really don't know how this vehicle avoided the dreaded rust like it has. Total prime and respray in Cellulose and Arizona Gold. (door openings. boot and engine bays. inside all accessible places e. t. c).   Original tan vinyl roof.

MECHANICS

The engine and 4 speed gearbox are original. New camshaft and followers were fitted. Engine was removed. inspected top and bottom. cleaned. painted and refitted. New gaskets top and bottom. and timing belt. alternator replaced.   Starts first time even after weeks stood. and runs like a dream.

RUNNING GEAR

Stripped. treated. painted and totally rebuilt. New shock absorbers and bushes e. t. c. all round.

INTERIOR

Fantastic. Tan seats completely re-covered in like for like PVC / leather and cloth combination at cost of over £600. The cloth used for the seats is four times thicker than the original and virtually rip proof. New (Old stock Ford)  tan carpet fitted. Door cards immaculate.  Original push button Ford Radio. All bulbs in dash replaced and working. All door mechanisms serviced. Roof lining excellent. Model with no headrests or rear seatbelts as original spec.

BRAKES

Total replacement. Calipers. cylinders. pipes. shoes. pads. e. t. c. e. t. c

OTHER

New fuel tank. New Exhaust. Good Year Grand Prix S tyres all round. Manual choke. Runs on unleaded fuel. Loom and electrics fantastic (never tampered with or chopped). One key fits all locks. Manual choke. Non power steering.  Rear heated window. I obtained an immaculate passenger door mirror and rear seatbelts. but these have not been fitted as I wanted the spec to be original. These come with the car.

ENQUIRIES

Auction only. Comes with 12 months MOT. If it doesn't sell at what I want it stays with me. I will still be happy. (I listed it last year and took the ad down a few days from the end. I find this difficult)
