This lovely Bentley has formed part of my private collection of classic cars for around the last 3 years. The disposal of my personal Citroen collection has been well documented in the press and now all gone i can concentrate on the remaining few vehicles to go so here is my Bentley (Alvis . Type and Lincoln to follow in due course).
For me the only choice was the Bentley as these days i find the Silver Shadow's that too bit ostentatious.
I was drawn to this car largely due to its exceptional history file and rust free bodywork. In fact i nave never had any paint rectification carried out to the car and it does not need any either.
A huge benefit to the car this year is that it has become in the Historic Taxation class so the Tax is Free!
I have just had a new mot and like last year it passed with no advises necessary.
There is a huge variation on the condition of these cars. ften they have rusty arches. odgy brakes and have been poorly maintained. This car is just the opposite. A quality car with a quality pedigree.
It starts well and runs as smooth as it should do. riving it is effortless and sublime.
Mainly the interior is very good although some of the wood is showing signs of age although the door cappings which often suffer are good.
The only thing i know is not working is that although you can lock the car and make it secure the central locking does not work from the key although it does work by pressing the central lock button inside the car. Also the fuel cap release button is not working. hese may be connected but neither have bothered me so i have not investigated.
After having a bad experience years ago with the rear brakes of a Rolls immediately changed the rear brake hoses for peace of mind.
As i said it has a huge history file and far too much to list but points of interest are for much of its life it was owned by a Colonel and indeed his coat of arms badge is on the grille. ld mots back to 1984. letter from The Manage of its original supplier (Kenning's London Upper Montague Branch indeed their details are still shown on the number plates) stating they supplied it new to Mr Burrell new and that they serviced it throughout its life this was addressed to Bristol Motor Co. at the time they sold it to the Colonel. Aside form the probable 100 odd invoices for many thousands of pounds one other thing that appealed to me was the Colonel also owned an Alvis as I do !
I am midway between Peterborough and Cambridge. he nearest train station is March and the best connecting airport is Stansted.
Please do not forget you bid to buy and not to reserve the right to view first. Viewing is welcome and if you do want to view it should be done before any offer is made. The car is of course 41 years old and proud of it.
Although i will take a px (subject to ebay rules) it will need to be at a sensible value so that i can just sell it on as has been well publicised i sadly have to sell my collection of vehicles.
