Here we have on offer a very rare opportunity to acquire a coachbuilt Lancia Appia Promiscuo. The Italian translation of promiscuo is mixed use. ot what you may be thinking!

PROMISCUO'S
The Promiscuo or mixed use vehicle was a vehicle built in very limited numbers. his is an extremely rare survivor! Built as a people carrier and /or small. ommercial load carrying vehicle for a small business. here were a few Carrozzeria building these cars. Based on the commercial vehicle platform of Lancia's small Appia saloon. lso available was the Furgoncino (small van) and Camioncino (Pick-up). I have seen just two other Promiscuo's and know of one other.
However. his is the only example I have ever seen built by Carrozzeria Zanella. ased in Parma. taly.
Our car may well be the only survivor by Zanella. ossibly even the only one they made?! I am more than happy to be corrected on this. y anyone out there with further knowledge.

CARROZZERIA ZANELLA
There is very little information out there about Zanella. o if you can enlighten us regarding this Italian coachbuilders. e'd love to hear from you.
We do know they were based in Parma. taly. Parma is better known for it's ham and cheese and Architecture but was also the home of Zanella. The company. tarted just after the war by the Zanella family. erhaps it's best known creation was the little. pen two seat tourer based on the  Fiat 500 of the 1950's/60's.

PS 013839
Recently imported from Italy. emarkably PS 013839 has had just one owner from 1958. Sig. Sanchietti Girolamo. rom Pesaro. This has benefited the car as it now presents in highly original condition. he paintwork is original. ll the interior trim is original. t still has the Weber. PG kit in the engine bay (very popular in Italy at this time) and signs that the LPG gas tank was fitted on the roof of the vehicle in a specially built carrying frame.
Unusual in comparison with the other coachbuilt Promiscuo Appia's is that the Zanella version is a five door car. ith the pillarless construction to the main doors. s seen on the Appia saloon.

It is a car for full restoration and has clearly not been used for a decent period. s stated it is highly original and basically complete. The only missing items being 3 hubcaps. headlight surround and the drivers door glass. All these items are standard Appia and easily obtained.
The engine turns freely and the car rolls on it's wheels freely. The steering turns smoothly and the gear selector selects the gears. All dials and switches are present and correct as are the correct door trim fixings.
The conversion by Zanella has been made to a high standard and with a lot of thought. rom the recessed fuel filler flap in the back to the alloy panel finishing in the load bay area. nterior opening catch on the rear door. All nice touches.

SUMMARY
To sum up. his is a charming. xtremely rare vehicle. Very original and if there is another Appia Promiscuo in the UK I'd be amazed. It would be nice to restore it and keep as much of the patina and signs of use as possible but would also be a very interesting thing to take to the concours show if you want to go the whole way.
