Mk 1 Escort. Mexico / RS2000 replica.

It's a UK 2 door Escort and was originally an 1100 L.

5 speed type 9 gearbox with quick shift linkage.

Correct aluminium RS2000 sump and bellhousing. also the engine mounts are RS2000 aluminium and are fitted with brand new heavy duty rubbers.

Disc front brakes on Bilstein struts

Brand new rear shoes in the rear brakes.

3. 89 Ratio diff.

New single leaf rear springs and 1 1/2 inch lowering blocks with new GAZ adjustable shocks.

Entire rear end is fitted with brand new polybushes.

Single piece propshaft.

Brand new Ashley twin box exhaust with stainless steel tailpipe. (looks and sounds great. not too loud).

Electronic ignition. electric fan. new fuel lines. mint refurbished MK2 Recaro front seats. rear seat is original and in perfect condition.

6 clock dash with all dials working correctly.

New carpets. new carpets mats. new carpet sill trims.

New drop door glasses (the winding windows).

Springalex steering wheel

New halogen headlights.

Two Cibie driving lights these are wired into the main beam circuit via a relay and fuse. (correctly)

Two ring spot lights. these are not wired at the moment. All the additional lights are fitted on the correct aluminium quick release brackets.

I will cover the condition of the car in sections to try and help you realise exactly what the car is like.

ENGINE. GEARBOX & REAR AXLE.

The engine starts easily. it idles very well and is mechanically very quiet and smooth. It is fitted with a four branch exhaust manifold. twin choke weber carb. it pulls very well and gives very good performance. the exhaust sounds very nice and I went for the twin box system as I didn't want the car to be too loud.

The gearbox is in excellent order. shifts very nicely with the quick shift and is quiet in operation.

The rear axle is in good condition and quiet.

BRAND NEW Clutch fitted this week.

SUSPENSION & STEERING.

The rear suspension is basically brand new and is fitted with polybushes thoughout. the front suspension is fine and all the bushes are in good condition. The steering is an RS2000 rack fitted with new track rod ends. There is a slight wobble through the steering wheel at about 55 - 60 mph. I think that it would benefit from having the wheels balanced. In addition. I have just ordered some new steering rack poly bush mounts (the old ones look a bit soft)

BRAKES.

The front brakes are discs with rebuilt calipers and new pads. the rear are drums and have new shoes fitted. The brakes work very well.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS.

All electrical systems operate as they should. all gauges and warning lights operate correctly. all exterior lights. wipers etc operate perfectly. When I got the car the main beam was inoperative. this turned out to be the actual column switch was broken. I managed to buy a new old stock one for £192. 00!!! that fixed it. I only mention this as they often fail with age.

INTERIOR.

The interior is really nice. new front seats and carpets. the door cards and rear parcel shelf are in perfect condition and are uncut!!!!(very rare to find them uncut). The dashboard is nice with no cracks. there is no radio fitted. Overall the interior is mint and not messed about with (like a lot have been).

BODYWORK. PAINT & CHROME.

The bodywork is in good condition. there are no dents. There is some minor bubbling in the lower sills and the passenger door bottom. front and rear wings. roof. bonnet. bootlid. scuttle. valances are all in very good condition. There was some corrosion under the fuel tank. this was very well repaired for the MOT. the check strap support on the passenger door has some rust and will need some welding at some point in the future. all opening panels open and close as they should. Generally the bodywork is in good condition.

The paintwork is generally in good condition. it's painted in Ermine white and the paint is good apart from some micro blisters in places. the Mexico stripe can be removed.

All the chrome is excellent. the bumpers are like new. all the rubber window seals are also in good condition.

In Summary;

This is a very nice usable classic Escort. it's reliable. fun to drive and goes very well. The bodywork and paint would benefit from some work. however please be assured that the car looks very good and gets good comments.  The car is ready to use and enjoy.
