1969 Jaguar E-Type Series I Fixedhead Coupé for sale
Current customer rating: (582 votes ) based onLaunched at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show. the Jaguar E-Type was
nothing short of a revelation. With its heady blend of supercar
performance. breathtaking styling and low price tag. the newcomer
left rivals reeling and customers clamouring. Early sportscar
racing success at the hands of Graham Hill and Roy Salvadori
amongst others helped cement its reputation. Built as a monocoque
with a front sub-frame to cradle the engine. the model's
combination of all-round independent suspension rack and pinion
steering and four-wheel disc brakes gave it excellent road holding
and handling capabilities. Fed by triple SU HD8 carburettors and
topped with a 'straight port' DOHC cylinder head. its indomitable
3781cc straight-six engine was quoted as developing some 265bhp and
260lbft of torque. Achingly beautiful yet viciously quick. the
E-type remains for many the ultimate production Jaguar.
In 2006. this original righthand drive 1969 Jaguar E-Type Series
II coupé was purchased by a friend of the vendor as a restoration
project from eBay. He stripped the car down and set about a
complete ground-up rebuild around a restored Series I fixedhead
coupé body shell. During his ownership. the engine was sent to a
Jaguar specialist in Essex where it was completely rebuilt with
chrome con rods. lightened and balanced crankshaft and fly wheel. br/>the cylinder head overhauled with polished valves and ports and
triple Weber carburettors fitted. The vendor believes that the
engine has also been bored out. increasing the size from the
original 4. 2 litres. The engine components used were supplied by
Rob Beere Racing including a 'fast-road camshaft'. When the vendor
purchased the car from his friend in 2011. it had been painted
inside and out in green. he had also fitted a fully re-conditioned
rear axle. a new engine cradle. a new wiring loom and rebuilt the
front suspension and brakes at a cost of £37. 00. When the current
owner collected the car. he took it to Jaguar specialists. Southern
Classics. Steve Berry. owner of Southern Classics. a renowned
Jaguar expert and perfectionist. checked over the car and found a
number of items which he felt were not to his standard. so he and
his team stripped the car down. removed the paint from the outside
and set about rebuilding it to concours condition. This included
new welding along the rear wings. making sure that all the panels
fitted correctly and mounting a Series I dashboard to the car.
After painting. it was sent to Trimcentre in Birmingham to have a
new Series I interior fitted; it was then returned to Southern
Classics for final fitting and finishing. Before final delivery. br/>the car went to Webcon (Weber) where it was tuned on the rolling
road by Alan Collins. their Chef Engineer. This stunning example is
supplied with a V5C registration document; a MoT test certificate
which expires in August 2014; a box file containing invoices for
the parts used going back to 2006; a photographic record of both
restorations and copies of the registration documents going back to
the first owner showing that the registration number 77 JGH has
always been assigned to this car. This stunning E-Type fixedhead
coupé which cost nearly £90. 00 to restore. has the iconic styling
of the Series I but has all the benefits of the later Series II
mechanics.
