1968 Jaguar E-Type Series 1½ Roadster for sale
Current customer rating: (215 votes ) based onThe Jaguar E-Type was manufactured between 1961 and 1975 and its
combination of good looks. high performance and competitive pricing
established the marque as an icon of 1960's motoring. A great
success for Jaguar. more than 70. 00 E-Types were sold during its
lifespan. The Series I was introduced. initially for export only in
March 1961. with the domestic market launch coming four months
later in July 1961. The cars at this time used the triple SU
carburetted. 3. 8 litre six cylinder XK engine from the XK150S. The
first 300 cars that were built had flat floors and external bonnet
latches and are considered rare and more valuable. After that. the
floors were ditched to provide more leg room and the twin hood
latches moved to inside the car with the 3. 8 litre engine increased
to 4. 2 litres in October 1964. Although there was never a
fixed specification for this unofficial model. the Series I½. can
be recognised by glass-covered headlights (up to 1967). small
'mouth' opening at the front. signal and tail-lights above the
bumpers and exhaust tips under the number plate in the rear.
Most aesthetically though these were the last cars to feature the
sporty toggle switches on the dashboard.
This lefthand drive 1968 Jaguar E-Type Series 1½ Roadster was
supplied new to California before being taken to Florida. The
vendor purchased this car in Florida from a deceased estate a
couple of years ago. the American owner had had this car for over
thirty years and within that time the Jaguar has been repainted.
This E-Type has just been imported to the UK and as the catalogue
is going to press the UK registration has been applied for. The
E-Type Series 1½ will be supplied with a V5C registration document. br/>an MoT test certificate which will expire in May 2015 and the
Florida title document with some invoices and handbooks. This rust
free example would benefit from some restoration as the paint has
discolored but it is reported by the vendor that it runs and drives
well. This icon from the 1960's. is regarded as one of the most
beautiful cars ever built and is one of the most useable
investments in the world. not only as part of a car collection but
for use at rallies and special events.
