                                            1983 MERCEDES 230CE “W123” COUPE  AUTOMATIC

OUTSTANDING ORIGINAL CONDITION . 2 OWNERS . EVERY MOT & DETAILED  HISTORY FILE

This is an outstanding example of a Mercedes W123 230CE “Pillarless”  Coupe in  totally original rust-free condition with complete history file and every MOT since 3 years old to document the mileage. service and maintenance history. The vehicle is a credit to both Mercedes and its previous 2 owners.

The vehicle was UK supplied and first registered on 2nd August 1983 when the new “A” plates became available. It was serviced and  maintained for most of its life by Mercedes specialist John Tallis Motors of Bath. for its local Doctor owner. who owned the car for 24 years since 1990. and kept a record of all servicing and maintenance and every MOT.

She has now covered a total of 133. 00 miles. which is an average of only 4. 00 miles per year. and is mechanically perfect. I recently completed a totally trouble free 500 mile holiday trip and she is a very relaxing and comfortable car to drive with good fuel economy thanks to the 2300cc ohc engine with Bosch “E” fuel injection. power steering and the 4 speed automatic gearbox.

The period metallic Havana Brown  paintwork and matching beige fabric trim are in truly excellent condition and the matching beige carpets and grey boot trim have obviously are all n outstanding condition. There is a very small area of wear on the driver's seat in the normal place. but other than this the trim is as good as new(see picture of drivers side carpet and trim). It is evident that hese cars indeed had a very fine build quality 30 years ago.

She has a factory fitted electric sunroof which works perfectly and full set of factory alloy wheels. The original tool kit is complete and well preserved in the boot (see photo). The door rubbers and window seals are in excellent condition and there is no wind noise (apart from when the sunroof is open at 90 mph!!). She also has the original push button radio (still works fine for local radio) and fully retracting electric areal (nb always turn the radio off before parking in the garage!!).

She is currently MOT's until 24th August 2014. and has been MOT'd every year since first due in August 1986. Road tax expired end April. but she can be taxed for the new owner (at cost) to drive home if required. There is a complete history file with the original service and handbooks. She can be insured on a Chaucer Classic car policy. which for me cost only 106 pounds per year (3000 miles limit).

Although I have done my best to describe the car. potential bidders must remember that this is a 31 year old vehicle and are welcome  to come to inspect to satisfy themselves that this is accurate. Viewing/test drive  can be arranged  by appointment . and  serious bidders should contact Steve on 07890948758(Mobile) or 01179674886(home). Location is in Kingswood. Bristol  is  convenient for access from the M4/M5 via the east Bristol A4174 ring road or the A420 Bristol-Chippenham Road.

The vehicle is not advertised elsewhere and will be sold to the highest bidder once the reserve price has been met.   Usual Ebay rules apply and serious bidders only are invited to bid. Please contact me if you do not have a record of over 10 purchases on Ebay.   All questions by email will be answered within 24 hours. The buyer must make contact within 24 hours of close of bidding and make arrangements for payment (cash on collection or cleared bank transfer prior to).

Outstanding W123 Coupes in original condition such as this are becoming increasingly rare and sought after. both in the UK and overseas. and were even in short supply when new as you can see from this extract from “Wikipedia”:-

It is a tribute to the car's instant popularity – and possibly to the caution built into the production schedules – that nine months after its introduction. a black market had developed in Germany for Mercedes-Benz W123s available for immediate delivery. [4]Customers willing to order new cars from their local authorized dealer for the recommended list price faced waiting times in excess of twelve months. Meanwhile. models that were barely used and were available almost immediately commanded a premium over the new price of around DM 5. 00. [4]

Whoever buys this car will get a truly excellent example of a rapidly appreciating classic car which will give many. many years of pleasurable driving in future.               Thanks for reading and Happy Bidding. The winner will not be disappointed!!

Overseas bidders are welcome by the way – the last Mercedes I sold on Ebay went to a Doctor in Malta. who was a pleasure to deal with.

Comments and questions to the seller:

from Brian Conlon, dated 14 may 2020
Hi there, the car looks to be in great condition. Just wondered has it any rust sports or has it been treated for rust at all, eg. the underside. Also, are there any mech or elec elements currently not working? Many thanks. Brian
