MGB with ZETEC 2.0 and 5 speed gearbox - Track Days / Racing for sale
Current customer rating: (568 votes ) based onThis is a very unique car that took over >£6000 to put professionally together in the past 6 months :
The engine is a popular setup for Lotus 7 type kit cars used for racing:
- Ford ZETEC 2. 0 - low mileage unit. with fresh cam belt. con-rod bolts replaced with stronger ARP ones. new water pump. new sump gasket
- Ford Type 9 5 speed transmission with new clutch (first gear is however a little tricky for some reason)
- Reconditioned Yamaha R1 carburettors and custom inlet manifold for ZETEC engines
- New Megajolt programmable ECU (not included in the sale though)
- Kenlowe auxiliary cooler fan
- Lighter 1. 8 flywheel
- Air filters are needed for extensive usage though
The result is an engine that revs high. outputting more than 150 bhp (whilst weighing 100kg less than the MGB engine) - which is all so much more fun than the asthmatic MGB 1. 8.

One of the benefit is that this popular combination is very well documented on multiple forums (simply google it) - so you can always find advice on tuning it further etc.
With a race cam shaft and high flow exhausts. others achieve close to 200 bhp.
In addition. the car is fitted with the following features for safety:
- Fabricage roll cage
- Fully plumbed fire extinguisher with 2 quick releases - covering the engine bay and the passenger footwell
- Green stuff brake pads and new brake disks
- Sparco seat and harnesses for both passengers
Structurally. the car is very sound:
- recent welding on the inner sills
- new king pins (expensive to replace!)
- galvanised fuel tank
- new rear bearings
The paint however is not great - but again. this is not a car to go to a concours d'elegance.
There are some spots of rust around the headlights and endges.
The seals around the windows are clean and the tyres have plenty of thread left.
The MOT is valid through April 2015.
I'm selling it because of the lack of time enjoy it (days away from the family on the w-e is not great) and because I have too many cars at present.
I have a ton of invoices covering the history of the car since the last 20 years - and also the heritage certificate.
In short. this is a car that will effortlessly be very quick on a track - whilst being ultra reliable and strong thanks to its modern technology under the bonnet.
The car is also listed elsewhere - so I may end this listing before completion of the auction.
In the mean-time. no time wasters. no tyre kickers. only true amateurs who know what they're buying and who can pay for it promptly.
