Rare 1953 Bedford RL MK1 GS 4X4. Standard, Camper or Overlander! for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.5) based on 1085 votes
Rare MK1 RL GS 4X4. MOT and TAX Exempt. Most survivors are ex AFS MK2's. This is proper ex-Army! 1953. 7500 miles from new! 4. 9ltr. 6 cylinder petrol. Air over hydraulic brakes (It really stops!!). Factory Aircon: Fold out front screens and a Cupola hatch!! Nato towhook and air connectors for trailer. Repatriated back to the UK in 1988. Apparently previously used by a bakery in France as a recovery truck. Someone has spent a lot of time and money on it in the past. Chassis. Running gear etc are really good. Cab is solid but could do with a bit of work mainly cosmetic. Canvas tilt is good and watertight. Only a small tear on the O/S/R.   An accomodation unit has been custom made and fitted in the back. nbsp; It has a membrane around it to keep the weather out and is carpeted floor to ceiling and is actually very nice! Sink etc could do with updating. This is a proper 4X4 that will go pretty much anywhere due to excellent ground clearence. You have the option if required to convert to LPG or drop a diesel lump in it or put up with 10MPG! It will cruise at 50mph all day long. These are very simple (But heavy!) vehicles to work on. They are designed to be fixed by Squaddies in the field! I would drive this old thing pretty much anywhere. At 7500 miles shes hardly run in. It really is fun to drive. The 6 cyl engine sounds great! I bought it for a bit of fun and i planned to do an LPG conversion on it and drive it down through Europe taking in some old Eastern Bloc countries. Unfortunately with work commitments and a lack of spare time this isnt going to happen anytime soon and i dont want it sitting around doing nothing. Ive just put 12 months free tax in it. All you need to do is insure it on a classic policy. I recommend breakdown cover aswell. I used specialist military breakdown cover and it was £40 a year! The only fault with it really is the clutch release bearing is noisy! No big deal. Either put up with it or spend an hour dropping the gearbox and replace it! The army reg is 54 BJ 91 and i still have the plates. I would encourage interested partys to come and have a look so you see exactly what you are getting. I will take you for a spin if you are genuinly interested ( I bet that seals a deal!) But i want a fiver towards petrol! Haha.
So to sum up this vehicle is great if you:
1) Want to go Camping and stand out from all the boring VW bays and T4's
2) Want to go Overlanding and drive over things. br>3) Go to a Classic Military show and show off. br>4) Drive in rush hour traffic and create high havoc like i do with it!
Please no timewasters. No stupid offers. The start price is my absolute bottom line and i'm losing money on that. Its at Barnstaple. North devon. EX32. Contact me through Ebay messaging or call Scott on 07543923179. Please note i drive for a living and work long unsociable shifts (Hence why im selling it) If i cant take your call leave a message and i will get back when i can. I will not respond to witheld numbers. Vehicle is advertised else where and i reserve the right to kill this listing if it sells. So if you want an early. Rare RL best get over sharpish for a look! £150 Paypal deposit at auction end and the balance in Cash unless we come to another arrangement. Bidders with less than 10 contact me from a landline or your bid is cancelled. Overseas bidders speak to me first. Messers will be named and shamed!! And reported to Ebay. Sorry to genuinly interested parties but there are some right idiots on here. Cheers.

How the f**k did this get on here? This is my old Ebay listing from last year and after being mucked about so much by typical ebay 'Buyers' i pulled it off and i still have it. Ive got a Cummins 6B with a ZF 5 speed (Overdrive 5th) gearbox to go in it, I might be persuaded to sell it but not for £3500, I was giving it away at that price, When did you last see a MK1 RL for sale let alone see one on the road! The things brilliant! Cheers.

Hello Scott. I never thought you would sell this truck you got from Me! I had LOADS of enquires via Ebay. AFTER I sold it to you Mate! You would be better served either advertising it on HMVF or Ebay Buddy.
How are things your end? Did you get away at weekends with your daughter, as you wanted to in this RL? Kind regards: Mike.
