CLASSIC MINI COOPER MPI TOTALLY RESTORED & INTERIOR RETRIMMED

1997 Mini Cooper MPI. This car has been totally restored & is now in outstanding condition. The work carried out includes:

All rust has been removed and replaced with new metal. Particular areas include the outer sills - both sides replaced. inner sills - one side replaced completely & the other has had minor repair - all repairs have been butt welded with no overlaps. Doorsteps replaced both sides - these have been spot welded to the new sills as per the original method of construction. The boot floor has been replaced along the rear edge & again spot welded at the outer edge & butt welded in the boot. The doors have had new Heritage doorskins fitted after the frames were repaired. One A panel has been replaced. again with a Heritage part.

The rear subframe has been removed & refurbished with new radius arm bushes and has been painted with smoothrite. followed by multiple coats of stone chip. The rear brakes have new wheel cylinders & brake shoes.

The engine has been removed but having covered such low mileage has just been serviced. the gearbox has been rebuilt with new bearings & new 1st/reverse gears ( it was jumping out of reverse when I bought it). While the engine was out a new clutch was fitted as well as a new water pump. The alternator belt was also replaced.

A new windscreen has been fitted & both front & rear windscreen rubber seals have been replaced. The grille. bumpers & front indicator lenses have all been replaced. New front spot lights have been fitted. The wheel arches are also new.

The car has been completely resprayed in 2k red with an Old English white roof & new transfers have been fitted.

The seats have been partly retrimmed - the original cream inserts have all been replaced with red faux alcantara & new cream piping which looks stunning.

I have two sets of keys & factory fit immobiliser fobs. as well as the original handbook & service booklet which has been stamped up to 2005.

Having restored the car over the course of last year I took it for an MOT in January & there was only one advisory on it - the handbrake needed adjusting - now done. Since driving it home from the MOT it's sat in my garage awaiting some better weather!

To summarise this is a fine example of the late model Classic Mini. It needs nothing doing (although Mini owners always seem to find things to improve!) and will provide a far more reliable mode of classic transport than the earlier models - multi point fuel injection means no messing with a choke to get it started & electronic ignition means that it won't conk out when it rains like the older variants so often do. It could be that it may be more suitable for a female than a male - the alcantara. although red. could be seen as dark pink in some lights! Finally it does at least have some degree of safety built in with a drivers airbag fitted.
