Portugese & Cagiva

Seller's notes: "Like the very best dogs, this Moke is a compilation of several heritages. It is a faithful and true companion which can be relied upon to start, run, and attract attention and make new friends wherever I go. I have always tried to replace and rebuild with NOS and Mini parts, including a NOS 998 motor with new kph speedo. The mileage is true since that installation. Sometimes I jump the track - for example, by using a dry cell Optima battery - we're on 5 years with that - no corrosion or rust issues. I still have most of the old parts, and some new ones, so other things are available like Australian front seats, fold & tumble bench rear, plus two single rears. I have the original cage, and several additional wheels/tires if you want to do something like a matching trailer. This is not and was never meant to be a show car. I drove it 150 miles to work 4 days week for almost 4 months, only had one problem - when I left my lights on, but I was able to push start it and get home."

This car is the very best vehicle you can have - if you always wanted a motorcycle but were afraid to ride.  No helmet required - your friend can sit next to you. and you can still smell the BBQ & fresh cut grass as you drive through a neighborhood.  It is in good enough condition to drive anywhere - like Las Vegas. (range is about 280 miles per tank) but not so pristine that you are afraid to leave it in a parking lot.  It has enough power for freeway travel. and to get up into the mountains. enough charm to be in parades & shows. and enough cargo room and agility to be super useful for projects around the house.  this car is NOT a numbers-matching preserved authentic heritage vehicle - but the only Chinese parts on it are the seat covers.  If you love Moke's  this is your chance to get an unusual. unique and super sweet ride you don't have to dump a bunch of money & time into.  I have a lot of extra parts - like front grilles in orange. white and purple - which may be available.  I have metal - like fender panels and trim - some of which were supposed to have been already used by the last guy who did body work on it.  He did it his way. instead of how I requested - and the rust is peeking through after several years.  There is certainly room for some improvement = I would put spring suspension in it - but it is very use-able just as it is.  ***Please note - the speedo and stated mileage are in KILOMETERS!!!  a NOS engine and NOS speedo were installed together during an amateur restoration also involving poor prep pre-paint.  SO - in MILES - it is about 10. 00. and it goes about 68.  One time. late at night on a deserted freeway. going downhill with a tailwind. I think I might have seen 135 (83) for just a second.  Or it could have been a gnat in my eye.  But I also sometimes have to drive in the margin far right of the slow lane because it can't keep up on extended hills (Cajon Pass).   The 998 and other associated mechanical components have all been kept at or near stock configuration.

Note*** per question I received ; This VIN is the one provided to me by Barnhill Mini's who brought the car to Florida. and sent it to me in California.   The California DMV accepted it and issued title and registration in 2002.   The car was LHD from the factory. RHD when I received it.  It is primarily comprised of Portugese and defunct Cagiva factory parts as well as some parts from Australian and defunct Venezuelan factory. and many items from Mini Mania. and some custom work by an off-road guy in my town.  When I received the Moke some of the parts were blue. some yellow. and some white.  There was enough rust that occasionally parts would fall off of the car.  My first trip to Las Vegas. I had to stop three times to go back and pick up a door. or some chunk of metal. and I could see the road through the floor by the time I got back.  I also had to drive with one hand holding up the windscreen.  So that's what I started with.  My goal was to create a solid little car I could use with a high probability of making it home.  I have learned a lot along the way. and will be happy to explain all the quirks to the buyer.  The best data I have to determine the actual origination are the lottery tickets we found in the pontoon when I replaced the gas tank float/sending unit & lines.  The car came with pvc drip line connecting the fuel tank to the carb. which I replaced with metal fuel lines. Depending on your goals - it is either ready to go. or still in need of substantial work.  I have tried to accurately describe the vehicle and condition.  If you have a question - please send a message because someone else probably wants to know.
Also : The original build is 4 seater.  I have seats for the back. Due to mis-communication with welder - original cage needs some work to be useable.  I asked him to use it as a model - but didn't fully explain that I needed to still be able to switch back to the original for use as a four seater (seat belt attachments).  Rather than make a new top (2 seater) using the old one as a pattern - he cut the old feet off and reworked them to make the new top.  If you weld - it is an easy fix to make.  If you are me - you can't even explain it right.  However - everything else I asked him for - he did.  I don't bump my head on it and the hard shade top is a lifesaver.
Thank You for watching - and happy bidding  :)
