Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.5) based on 369 votes

Launched in 1966 with Alfa's wonderful twin-cam 1600cc engine. the Pininfarina-styled Giulia Sprint Spider was destined for greatness from the outset. its success being hastened when it shot to fame in the 1967 film ‘The Graduate' starring Dustin Hoffman.

In 1970 the boat-tail of the original Duetto was replaced with the Series 2 model which had a chopped off ‘Kamm' tail to improve high speed stability and luggage capacity. More engines were added to the list of options. the most powerful being the 2-litre unit found in the Spider Veloce. giving it a top speed of 119mph and a 0-60mph time of less than 10 seconds.

The Series 3 arrived in 1982. retaining the basic structure of the car but adding more substantial rubber bumpers fore and aft. the rear incorporating a ‘ducktail' spoiler. Mechanically things remained pretty much as before. sales holding up well in the crucial US market.

Alfa Romeo offered a sporadic supply of Spiders in RHD form for the UK market. at times leaving it to Alfa GB. or even a number of specialist firms to offer “official” conversions. Bell and Colvill. one of the UKs leading dealers at the time filled just such a gap in the market. converting numerous cars to RHD specification. This example is one such car. produced in 1986 and supplied through them.

In all. 2. 98 Quadrifoglio Verde (Green Cloverleaf) Spiders were made between 1986 and 1989. Offered only in silver. red or black. they boasted electric windows. alloy wheels and smart red carpets.

In nice. straight and original condition. the vendor advises that this car has not been tampered with. the majority of the paintwork being original. Running and driving very nicely. under the bonnet the original stickers are still in place and it has unusual headlight washers which look to have been fitted from new.

The original service book has been stamped 11 times between delivery and the year 2000. nbsp;at which point it had covered 71. 92 kms (44. 20 miles). There are 16 old MOTs on file which confirm that the now indicated 79. 35 kms (47. 09 miles) is correct. the current ticket expiring in April 2015. It even has its original paint touch-up stick.

These Series 3 Spiders look particularly good value at the moment. a situation which we feel is unlikely to last for much longer. especially for such nice. straight examples as this one.
