This auction is for my Sweeney Consul replica. This car started life as a base Consul with a V4 (still states 2000 on the log book as I haven't changed it yet). and has had a pinto and 3. 0 essex fitted over the years. this is one of the earliest ones around being registered in April 1972 (free road tax). I have now fitted a BOA Cosworth engine from a MK3 that I once had with a 2. 8 manual gearbox. if you don't like these all the wiring loom is still in place to fit a 3. 0 essex back in. I restored this a couple of years ago. it was a very solid car and and only needed a couple of areas repairing which I cut out the rusted metal and welded fresh steel in. the front wings are new steel pattern parts and the bonnet was replaced. the wheel arches though are original on the rear.  The rear brakes have been uprated to the wider 3. 0 ones with MK2 backplates so they bleed from the top and the fronts are 4 pots from a princess. all the brake pipes have been replaced with copper and all hoses replaced. the front discs and pads are also new as is the handbrake cable. I have removed. cleaned and repainted the rear crossmember. replaced any wheel bearings that were slightly worn and under-sealed the whole car. I also painted the springs and put on 4 new shocks and new genuine Ford front lower wishbones. I have tried to make the car as close to the original Sweeney car as possible. all it needs is the correct cloth seats and the double stripe down the side which I have but have not been brave enough to fit yet. I spent ages watching episodes of The Sweeney to try to get it right even down to the correct Radio and tax disc holder and it even has a working Winkworth bell under the bonnet that is fitted with a timer relay which I had to build from Maplins. I fitted the BOA because I wanted to see if I could do it and it was just sitting in my garage. The MK3 it came from had a gas conversion so I have also fitted this to the Consul. it is all wired up but the pipe from the tank (located in the spare wheel well) to the vaporiser hasn't been fitted yet and also the pipe from the tank to the filler and filler connector needs fitting.
The only thing that lets this down is the paintwork. I respayed this with the help of a neighbour in my garage and I discovered i'm not a car sprayer. yes it looks good from a distance but there are some areas where the paint has reacted with something although I sprayed the whole car with a sealer first. then about 3 lots of primer. 3 or 4 basecote and then lacquer. It needs mopping and polishing again but does need certain areas redoing to make it perfect.
Also if I was keeping the car I would put lower springs on the front as it seems too high with the standard 3. 0 ones I put on.
The engine starts first time. I fitted a new uprated Bosch fuel pump as well but was only intending to start the car on petrol and then switch to gas as the MK3 used to run well on it and its cheaper. This isn't an immaculate car but its solid and looks the part. I think I have probably done about 100 miles in it in 2 years if that and today was the first time it has moved since the MOT last September. The car now needs a new enthusiastic owner to finish all the little bits off and enjoy it as I have too many projects and another Consul keeping me busy at the moment. The car also has a stainless exhaust with a sports back box which makes it a bit loud and this was something I was thinking of changing. Also the radio works as badly as it did in 1972 on MW with the dash front speaker (which I replaced) but there is a remote CD player in the glove box wired up and 2 speakers in the footwells (original kickplated around somewhere) and 2 under the seats as I didn't was to make any holes. I did fit rear belts though so the kids could come to shows. I also fitted a central locking kit.
I have probably missed some bits I have done but if you have any questions just ask.
